Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get to Taos for My Class?

Taos is located in Northern New Mexico at the base of the beautiful Sangre de Cristo Mountains at the COOL altitude of 7,000 feet. Summer's here are cool and green, unlike the southern part of the state. There are 2 major airports nearby.

A car is recommended for travel, however there are daily bus shuttles from the Albuquerque airport and ride-shares with other students can often be arranged. There is also scheduled airline service into Taos.

Where is the Taos Art School campus?

Our director, when asked where is her campus, always says, "It's between my Ears and over my Axles."
This school emphasizes unique locations for each of our classes that offer the participant a true immersion experience.

Our equine classes are held in a local barn
Our equine classes are held in a local barn where we set up the classroom with tables and chairs and easels and a horse is right in class with us at all times. Bring carrots! PS: In case you noticed this isn't a horse, but a mammoth donkey who's large head is being used by the teacher to discuss equine anatomy as compared to the other model, a beautiful white Arabian.

Where do I stay?

The TAOS ART SCHOOL recommends specific housing for all of our students while participating in our workshops.

We do not operate dormitories, instead, we utilize the many hotels and B&B's here.

You are invited to stay together with your teacher and fellow students, which makes for a cohesive experience.

Accommodations adobe

Since each class is in it's own unique location, the housing for each will also be individualized to choose a place near the specific class site. All of the housing we select feature a complete breakfast, since we consider this essential to a successful day in the workshop. Prices will vary. All are 'mid-range.' Check out the details that come with each class description. When you contact the hotel, be sure and mention that you are participating in a TAOS ART SCHOOL class in order to be offered the group rate we have set up for you.

If you are looking for a roommate, please call the office as we might know of someone in your class who has also made that request.

We are here to help. And we love to chat about our classes.

What is The Taos Art Colony?

There is an indefinable 'something' in the Southwest, and Taos is near its center. It surely has something to do with the shimmering quality of the Light, the vibrant mixing of Cultures and the calm vastness of Space. Nestled at the foot of the beautiful Sangre de Cristo Mountains, Taos is a place where the landscape bears the mark of infinity, where the movement of the earth is palpable, and where the widely diffused light invites your Soul to expand. The Vast Perspectives are filled with new Clarities.

Taos has inspired people for more than a millennium - from the Mysterious Anasazi Culture to the accomplished Pueblo Indians here today; from the artistic Spanish people to wave of seekers in modern times.

Taos currently supports a Vibrant Art Colony that we refer to as "The Left Bank of the Rio Grande" ©.
